Former South Carolina tight end Jared Cook is signing a one-year deal worth $3.6 million with the Green Bay Packers, according to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.

Cook, 28, played with the St. Louis Rams for the past three seasons. Cook had 142 catches for 1,786 yards and eight touchdowns for the Rams.

The former Gamecock was a third-round draft pick by the Tennessee Titans in 2009.

Cook was in Green Bay Monday for a physical.

NFL.com said Cook will challenge for the No. 1 tight end spot on the Packers’ depth chart and provide a consistent receiving threat for Aaron Rodgers. Returning tight end Richard Rodgers was second on the team in receptions last year with 58.
