Shon Carson locks in NFL free agent tryout

South Carolina running back Shon Carson has been invited to a rookie tryout camp with the Buffalo Bills.

Carson will fly out Thursday for the camp, which runs from Friday through Sunday.

“I just had to keep calm and have faith in God and wait for that phone call,” Carson said. “Now I just gotta go out there and show them.”

Carson rushed for 297 yards and two touchdowns as a fifth-year senior for the Gamecocks. He also averaged 23.8 yards on kickoff returns.

In high school, Carson became the third player in the South Carolina history with 100 touchdowns in his career. He also was a 44th round pick of the Cincinnati Reds as a senior at Lake City High School.

The Gamecocks had three players drafted: wide receiver Pharoh Cooper (Rams); offensive lineman Brandon Shell (Jets); and tight end Jerell Adams (Giants).

Other USC free agent opportunities include: running back Brandon Wilds (Falcons); safety Isaiah Johnson (Buccaneers); and defensive tackle Gerald Dixon Jr. (Falcons).
