The news of Skai Moore’s herniated disc was the big injury news Tuesday, but it wasn’t the only update.

Center Alan Knott had wrist surgery following spring practice but will be cleared for contact in time for fall camp, coach Will Muschamp said.

Defensive back Chaz Elder suffered a stress fracture in his foot that won’t require surgery but will limit him during the summer. Tight end Kyle Markway, who missed much of spring practice due to a foot injury, will be cleared for full contact by the middle of fall camp.

Freshman receiver Randrecous Davis will have sports hernia surgery, Muschamp confirmed.

Defensive tackle Stephon Taylor had labrum surgery in March and will be limited when fall practice begins in August.

Academics update

Four of South Carolina’s February signees have yet to enroll at school and arrive on campus, but the Gamecocks expect them all before the start of fall practice, Muschamp said.

Wide receiver Chavis Dawkins “had a little transcript issue” that may delay his enrollment, Muschamp said.

“He’ll definitely be in summer two,” Muschamp said of the 6-foot-2, 200-pound wide receiver who was a Shrine Bowl selection out of Byrnes High.

Offensive lineman Will Putnam won’t be able to enroll until the second summer session because his high school graduation is later than most high schools, Muschamp said.

“He’s exceptionally smart,” Muschamp said.

Offensive lineman Akeem Cooperwood still has to finish a junior college class at Georgia Military College but “he’ll be fine,” Muschamp said.

Cornerback Jamarcus King could be enrolled as early as Wednesday but may have to wait until the second summer session, Muschamp said.

“Just a formality. No big deal. He’ll be fine,” Muschamp said of King, a 6-foot-1 cornerback out of Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College, was a top JUCO prospect nationally in the 2016 class.

Thursday game stance

South Carolina was a staple in the opening Thursday night game of the college football season under former head coach Steve Spurrier, and Muschamp is happy playing in the game as well.

However, Muschamp isn’t keen on playing a non-Saturday game during the season, he said Tuesday.

“I think it’s a good deal opening college football with the Thursday night game,” he said. “I’m not as much for it during the season. I think your schedule is a little off balance unless you have an open week before the game. I have done it where you play on a Saturday and then on Thursday night. That creates some issues.”

The Gamecocks will play Vanderbilt on Sept. 1 at 8 p.m. in Nashville, Tenn., in the first SEC game and one of the first major college games of the season.
