David Williams enters fall camp firmly at No. 1 running back
South Carolina enters fall with junior David Williams positioned firmly at the top of the depth chart. Freshman A.J. Turner established himself as the No. 2 tailback in the spring, but there could be some movement this fall as Gamecocks coaches get their first look at newcomers Rico Dowdle and C.J. Freeman.
2016 Running Backs

Fr. Mon Denson (5-foot-10, 215 pounds): A three-star prospect who redshirted last season and also stood out as a linebacker in high school.
Fr. Rico Dowdle (5-foot-11, 211 pounds): A three-star prospect and PARADE All-Americn who rushed for more than 2,500 yards in high school.
Fr. C.J. Freeman (5-foot-11, 196 pounds): A three-star prospect who averaged 265 yards in four playoff games his senior season.
Sr. Darius Paulk (5-foot-7, 195 pounds): The former walk-on transfer has mostly played special teams for the Gamecocks.
Jr. Rod Talley (5-foot-10, 205 pounds): A transfer from Gardner-Webb who earned a scholarship last season and has two career carries.
Fr. A.J. Turner (5-foot-10, 195 pounds): After redshirting last season, rose to second on depth chart in spring as change-of-pace, speed back.
Jr. David Williams (6-foot-1, 220 pounds): The Philadelphia native is the team’s leading returning rusher with 555 yards on 131 careers in the last two years.
