Muschamp promises Gamecocks freshman WRs will play in 2016

South Carolina football coach Will Muschamp talked up his freshman wide receivers through camp.

Turns out, he’s backing it up with action.

Summer enrollees Chavis Dawkins, Korey Banks and Randrecous Davis all debuted on the depth chart before Thursday’s opener at Vanderbilt, and Muschamp said he’s expecting them to contribute.

“They’re all talented guys and, I think, in different ways,” Muschamp said. “Chavis is a very polished guy from a standpoint of playing the receiver position for a long time. ... Korey Banks is a guy that’s really good at top-end speed. He’s got some things, naturally running down the field and creates some issues as far as the top of the coverage. Randrecous probably just all-around talent-wise as far as catching the ball, finishing plays, having a natural instinct at the position has done a fantastic job.”

The listed starters are Deebo Samuel, Jamari Smith and Bryan Edwards, a mid-year enrollee freshman. Muschamp also promised wide receiver-turned-tight end Kiel Pollard would play.

Samuel is a sophomore, while Smith is a junior.
