South Carolina had a good first half on the scoreboard against Ole Miss on Saturday, but a tough 30 minutes on the injury front.
The Gamecocks lost running back Rico Dowdle, offensive lineman Malik Young, defensive end Aaron Sterling and safeties R.J. Roderick, Steven Montac, Jamyest Williams and Javon Charleston. The injuries to Dowdle, who appeared to injure his left ankle, and Roderick may be the most serious but there were no official updates on the injury front at halftime.
The spate of injuries at safety could be particularly problematic in the second half. If none of those players can return, South Carolina will have only Steven Montac and Jaylin Dickerson available at the position in the second half. That duo was on the field for Ole Miss’ final drive of the first half.
Dowdle was not on the South Carolina sideline for much of the first half. Blake Camper replaced Young at left tackle.
