The preseason predictions of SEC media gathered here will be released Thursday morning on the final day of the conference’s football media days.

Historically, we the media have shown a remarkable ability to pick someone other than the actual SEC champion, but we go through the motions each year anyway. Sixteen times in the last 20 years, the media’s selection has been wrong, and this year probably won’t be right either given how fluid the conference is at the top.

The Gamecocks, who were picked by this group last year to win the East and instead won only seven games, probably will be picked near the middle of the division this year. What will be interesting to see is how the Gamecocks are viewed versus the likes of Kentucky and Missouri as Steve Spurrier enters his 11th season.

Georgia will be picked first. Vanderbilt will be picked last. That much we know. The other five teams in the division on paper at least look a lot alike. I’ve listed the rankings I submitted below. Feel free to tell me where you think I got it wrong or even if you think I got it right.

1. Auburn

2. Arkansas

3. Alabama

4. Ole Miss

5. LSU

6. Texas A&M

7. Mississippi State

SEC EAST

5. Kentucky

6. Florida
