Kendall’s Morning Meeting: Cooper only Gamecock on list of SEC’s best players
Athlon Sports recently polled nearly 50 media members who cover the SEC to come up with a list of the best players in the conference.
Gamecocks wide receiver Pharoh Cooper finished 11th in the balloting, just behind Ole Miss wide receiver Laquon Treadwell and just in front of Alabama offensive lineman Cam Robinson. It wasn’t a surprising finish for South Carolina’s junior wide receiver, who was first-team All-SEC last year.
What’s of more concern for the Gamecocks is Cooper was the only South Carolina player on the list, and the list included 54 names. Kentucky had more representatives than that (two).
Right now, this is only a perception issue. South Carolina is replacing many key pieces with unknown commodities. If a list of the top 54 players in the SEC after the season still only includes Cooper, that could be a problem for the Gamecocks.
