Kendall’s Morning Meeting: SEC football rules our lives

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

The SEC football schedule will be announced this evening, which means every wedding photographer in Columbia, S.C., is getting ready for a ton of phone calls on Friday.

The zeal with which many Southerners build their entire social schedule around the calendar of their favorite team is astounding but something we’ve just all come to take as a given. Whether it’s planning a wedding or a planning the one fall weekend in the mountains, everything waits on the SEC.

The Gamecocks road games next year will be at Kentucky, at Vanderbilt, at Florida, at Mississippi State and at Clemson. They will play East Carolina, UMass and Western Carolina at home in the non-conference schedule.

When all these games will be played we find out tonight. My only request is that South Carolina plays Kentucky sometime in October. Why? Because Keeneland has horse races every weekend in October. Everything, as always, revolves around football.
