USC’s Felder will play with all-star team in Spain

South Carolina guard Rakym Felder will head overseas later this summer to Madrid, Spain, with USA East Coast, a group of college all-stars who will be led by Hall of Fame head coach Larry Brown. The team will compete against National Teams from Japan, Venezuela, Mexico and Senegal on the tour, which is set for early August.

“The opportunity this summer with USA East Coast will be a tremendous experience for Rakym in both basketball and life,” Gamecock head coach, and former USA East Coast head coach, Frank Martin said in a release. “He will be surrounded by a great roster, and will spend time learning from a great basketball mind in Larry Brown.”

Felder averaged 5.6 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game as a freshman in 2016-17. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native posted nine double-figure scoring games in 2016-17, including a 15-point performance in Carolina’s upset of No. 2 seed Duke in the NCAA Tournament.

“I’m blessed to receive an opportunity to travel to Spain and represent the USA East Coast team,” Felder said. “I’m looking forward to competing with other great players, and learning new things that can take my game to the next level.”

East Coast's training camp will be held on the campus of Columbia University in New York on August 5 and 6 before going to Madrid. Martin coached the team in 2014. Carolina director of basketball operations Andy Assaley served as the team’s assistant to the general manager for the 2015 tour. Former players Tyrone Johnson (2014), Sindarius Thornwell (2014) and Marcus Stroman (2015) played for the team.
