Frank Martin updates Kory Holden’s status

Since suffering a hamstring strain Dec. 19, Kory Holden is as close as he’s even been to returning to action for South Carolina.

USC coach Frank Martin said Monday morning that Holden will go though Monday afternoon’s practice to help measure his availability for Wednesday’s home game against Mississippi State.

Holden, who exited the Clemson game six weeks ago, joined the Gamecocks for light warm-ups before last week’s tip-offs with Florida and Texas Tech.

“He’s going to try and go here today and see if he can get though a whole practice,” Martin said. “And if he can, then we’ll see what happens tomorrow and moving forward.”

Holden, a junior transfer guard from Delaware, is averaging 3.3 points this season for USC.

“This is week six,” Martin said. “We’ve always targeted week six as the first possible availability for his hamstring, for the severity of his hamstring pull.”
