Former Gamecock Carrera lands spot in NBA’s G-League

Former South Carolina standout Michael Carrera has landed a playing spot back in the United States.

Carrera has joined the Oklahoma City Blue, the G-League team of the Oklahoma City Thunder. He will wear No. 9 for the Blue.

Carrera could team with another South Carolina standout, P.J. Dozier, on the Blue roster. Dozier was called up to the Oklahoma City Thunder and made his NBA debut on Thursday.

Carrera has played in Russia, his home country of Venezuela and most recently with Carinas Taipans in Australia. The 6-foot-5 forward led Carinas in scoring at 14.2 points per game and was third in rebounds at 3.8 per game. He also spent time on the Miami Heat Summer League team in 2016-17.

Carrera was a fan favorite during his time at South Carolina and led the Gamecocks in 2015-16 in scoring (14.5 avg.), rebounding (7.7 avg.) and blocks (1.0).
