South Carolina’s Jermaine Couisnard grabs SEC honor after huge week

Jermaine Couisnard’s first week as South Carolina’s starting point guard was an award-winning one.

Couisnard on Monday was named SEC Freshman of the Week after he guided the Gamecocks to wins over Kentucky and Texas A&M.

The East Chicago native scored 43 points in the two games, none more than important than the 3 he banked in to beat the No. 10 Wildcats on Wednesday.

Couisnard then had 17 points and three assists as the Gamecocks beat the Aggies on Saturday.

USC (10-7, 2-2 SEC) is back in action Wednesday against No. 16 Auburn (15-2, 3-2).

Couisnard’s honor is the first by a USC player since A.J. Lawson was named SEC Freshman of the Week in November 2018.
