USC basketball loses Bryce Lindsay commitment 2 days after Frank Martin news
Two days after the South Carolina men’s basketball team parted ways with head coach Frank Martin, Gamecocks 2022 guard recruit Bryce Lindsay announced on social media that he is re-opening his commitment.
Citing the coaching change, Lindsay said via Twitter that “while South Carolina is still a college option, at this time I believe it’s best for me to explore all possible options before officially committing to any university.”
South Carolina’s 2022 class had numbered three players. Zachary Davis of Denmark-Olar High and Daniel Hankins-Sanford of Chambers High in Charlotte had signed national letters of intent already with USC. Lindsay had not yet signed.
Lindsay, a three-star out of St. Frances in Baltimore, announced his commitment in late January.
“I loved the family vibe, campus and especially Coach Martin,” Lindsay said at the time. ”He reminds me of my past coaches I’ve played for, and I am very compatible with them. They coach you hard on the court and love you harder off the court.”
Lindsay is known most for his shooting ability, hitting a buzzer-beating 3-pointer and scoring 23 points in a win over the No. 2 team in the state in January. He and St. Frances played in the Chick-fil-A Classic at River Bluff last month and he hit six 3-pointers against Denver Prep. South Carolina coaches were there to watch Lindsay play.
“Bryce has the will to win,” St. Frances head coach Nick Myles told The State in January. “He’s one of the best shooting point guards in the country. He can really shoot the ball with range, definitely a floor spacer. He’s becoming a better defender, but I think he’ll add offensive firepower from Day 1.”
Martin’s departure could potentially lead to more roster turnover as transfer portal season heats up and once USC lands a new head coach. Fellow recruit Davis, a USC signee, is still locked into his Gamecocks commitment as of now.
