With college basketball season starting next month, the South Carolina men’s basketball team announced a free public event for fans to get to know the new-look Gamecocks.

The USC men will host Garnet & Black Madness at Colonial Life Arena on Oct. 26, the school announced Thursday. Doors open at 6:15 p.m., and the event will tip off at 7 p.m.

“I’m excited to welcome our fans back to Colonial Life Arena for this event,” first-year head coach Lamont Paris said in the school’s release. “We’ve been working extremely hard to get ready for the season and want to showcase that for all of you. It’s going to be a fun atmosphere and I hope you come out to see our team. Our players and staff can’t wait to meet all of you.”

Hired in April, Paris takes the reins from 10-year head coach Frank Martin, now at UMass. Paris and his revamped roster — highlighted by freshman phenom GG Jackson — hosted a local media day Wednesday, and Paris expressed excitement for the growth he’s seen during practice. Fans will have the opportunity to see Jackson and the rest of the Gamecocks in action Oct. 26.

The event is a departure from the joint men’s and women’s preseason Madness on Main event of past years, but it’ll give Paris’ team the spotlight as Paris looks to establish a foundation in Year 1.
