Watch as Chico Carter Jr. beats the buzzer to lift South Carolina over Clemson
The clock was ticking down to zero. Overtime was near. But Chico Carter Jr. found a lane, lobbed the ball in the air, and it fell through the cylinder with just 0.3 seconds remaining.
That last-second shot gave Carter Jr.’s South Carolina Gamecocks a thrilling 60-58 win over Clemson to move to 2-0 on the season.
A former Cardinal Newman star who transferred to USC from Murray State last season, Carter Jr. had his parents in the stands along with about 15 friends and family. He had said after Thursday’s practice that the rivalry game means something more to him as a Columbia native.
Not only did Carter scored the game-winning shot, but he led the Gamecocks with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, making four out of six 3-point attempts.
“I’m still on a high right now,” Carter said after the win. “I’m gonna go hug my mom and dad and my sister, everybody that came to the game. I had like 17 tickets. So it was a lot of people who came to see me play. I feel like I gave them a show.”
