South Carolina basketball had success with one transfer from The Citadel last season and hopes for the same this year.

The Citadel forward Stephen Clark announced a commitment to Lamont Paris and the Gamecocks on his Instagram page Monday. He is the second transfer to commit to Gamecocks in the last week, joining Minnesota’s Ta’Lon Cooper.

“Excited to announce I will be spending my last year at the University of South Carolina!” he posted to social media.

Hayden Brown transferred from The Citadel to Gamecocks last year and averaged 11.4 points and 4.8 rebounds last year. Like Brown, Clark is a graduate transfer and will have one year of eligibility left.

Clark averaged 16.6 points and 6.5 rebounds for the Bulldogs last year and was a second-team all-Southern Conference selection. He took an official visit to USC last week.

Clark is a North Carolina native and played at Metrolina Christian Academy. As a senior, he was named a Class 4A All-State selection and averaged 17 points, 10 rebounds and three assists.

South Carolina lost seven players from the 2022-23 roster and have three open scholarship spots after Clark’s decision.
