How GG Jackson fared in his NBA summer league debut for the Memphis Grizzlies
GG Jackson got off to a slow start but finished strong in his NBA Summer League debut.
The former Ridge View and South Carolina standout scored 10 points and had two blocked shots in Memphis Grizzlies’ 94-92 win over Philadelphia 76ers summer league opener on Monday in Salt Lake City.
Jackson came off the bench and played four minutes in the first half before playing 12 minutes in the second half. The 18-year-old forward scored eight of his 10 points in the second half, including six straight at one point.
Jackson had a nice drive to the basket and a 3-pointer during that stretch.
The Grizzlies selected Jackson in the second round, 45th pick overall, in last month’s draft. He was the youngest player selected in the draft.
Jackson spent one season at South Carolina and led the Gamecocks with 15.4 points per game, shooting 38% from the field.
Memphis Grizzlies general manager Zach Kleiman said last month he expects Jackson to sign with the Grizzlies on a two-way contract as opposed to a regular contract and spend significant time with the Memphis Hustle, the franchise’s NBA G League affiliate that plays in nearby Southaven, Mississippi.
Jackson will have a lot of opportunities to showcase his talents this summer. Memphis will play three games in the Utah Summer League before heading to Las Vegas where they will play four games beginning July 8 against the Chicago Bulls.
