Another former South Carolina basketball player has found a new home.

Zachary Davis announced Thursday that he is transferring to Memphis to play for coach Penny Hardaway. He will have one year of eligibility left. Davis visited the Tigers last weekend.

“I’m comin M town,” Davis wrote on his Instagram post.

Hardaway, the four-time NBA All-Star, has led Memphis to three NCAA appearances in his four seasons. Memphis went 29-6 this season and won the American Athletic Conference regular-season and conference tournament titles.

Davis is the Tigers’ third portal addition, joining Julius Thedford and Quante Berry.

Davis, who entered the transfer portal on March 24, was a three-star prospect coming out of Denmark-Olar High and was the Class A Player of the Year in South Carolina for his senior season.

The 6-foot-7 Davis appeared in 95 games in his three seasons, including 32 this year, and was a key contributor for the Gamecocks. He averaged 8.2 points and 4.6 rebounds a game. He had a career-high 22 points against Florida in January.

He started 19 games in the 2024-25 season.

Davis is one of eight Gamecocks who have announced they are transferring from this year’s team and the third to land with a new college. Former Gamecocks Arden Conyers (Charlotte) and Nick Pringle (Arkansas) have also found new teams.
