Cam Scott will continue to be a Gamecock after all.

The former Lexington High standout will stay with the South Carolina men’s basketball program, a family source confirmed to The State on Tuesday.

Scott had entered the transfer portal earlier this month. He had gotten plenty of interest but is deciding to stay with Lamont Paris’ squad.

Scott also confirmed the news on social media, posting a picture of his No. 23 South Carolina jersey hanging up in his locker room on his Instagram story. The post had the song “Sandstorm” by Darude, which is played at USC football games, attached.

“There is no place like home,” the source told The State.

The return of Scott (a 6-foot-6 guard) gives another boost to the South Carolina roster. The Gamecocks had picked up six commitments from the transfer portal this spring along with a five-member freshman signing class.

Scott joins center Jordan Butler as returners from last year’s team. Forward Myles Stute, who missed most of last season with a blood clot, also is expected to be back.

Scott averaged 2.3 points and 10 minutes a game. When he did get a chance, he made it count. In USC’s season-ending SEC Tournament loss to Arkansas, he had eight points and two 3-pointers on a perfect 3 of 3 shooting in the second half.

Scott was a four-star prospect coming out of Lexington High School and picked the Gamecocks after originally signing with Texas that fall. He finished up his career as the most decorated boys basketball player in Lexington High school history and helped the Wildcats to their first state championship since 2000.
