South Carolina men’s basketball is now without three players for the 2025-26 season.

Head coach Lamont Paris said Sunday freshman guard Abu Yarmah will redshirt and miss the season. He joins sophomore guard Cam Scott and freshman forward EJ Walker on the bench for the year. It was announced Nov. 4 after USC’s season opener Scott and Walker are redshirting.

“Abu has decided that he wants to redshirt, so I’m happy for him and the things that he’s going to attack in this year, and be able to spend some extra time on some things,” Paris said.

Yarmah suited up for the Gamecocks’ 91-72 win against North Carolina A&T but didn’t play. He was seen in sweats prior to Sunday’s 83-79 victory over Southern Mississippi.

A three-star high school recruit, Yarmah began his high school career at Patrick Henry High School in Roanoke, Virginia, before joining fellow Gamecock freshmen Eli Ellis and Hayden Assemian at Moravian Prep (N.C.) in the Overtime Elite league. Yarmah averaged 13.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.1 steals per game in his final OTE season.

“He felt really good and comfortable about it,” Paris said. “And so if he’s happy, I’m happy.”
