South Carolina MBB parts ways with assistant coach. What we know
South Carolina men’s basketball has made its first major change of the offseason.
USC parted ways with assistant coach Eddie Shannon, a team source confirmed to The State on Thursday.
Shannon posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday and reflected on his time with USC.
“I want to thank Coach Paris and the University of South Carolina for the opportunity to be part of the program,” Shannon wrote in the post. “I’m proud of the work we put in and wish the program continued success. I’m excited for what’s ahead and looking forward to the next opportunity.”
USC went 13-19 this season and 4-14 in the SEC, finishing 14th in the conference rankings. The Gamecocks fell 86-74 to Oklahoma in the first round of the SEC Tournament in Nashville.
Athletic director Jeremiah Donati confirmed March 11 that Paris would return to the Gamecocks for a fifth season as head coach.
Shannon had been on Paris’ staff since he arrived in Columbia ahead of the 2022-23 season. He played at Florida from 1995-99 and was an assistant coach since 2012. He joined the staff at Chattanooga in 2015, and Paris took over as head coach in 2017.
Shannon coached USC’s guards, per his team profile.
