George Mason transfer is South Carolina MBB’s first portal pickup
South Carolina men’s basketball got some much-needed guard help from the transfer portal.
George Mason guard Kory Mincy committed to Lamont Paris and the Gamecocks on Friday, a source confirmed to The State on Friday. On3’s Jamie Shaw was the first to report the news. He’s the program’s first portal pickup this offseason.
Mincy will be visiting USC this weekend. Mississippi State, North Carolina State, Ohio State, Kansas State and Pittsburgh also were interested in Mincy.
The 6-foot-2 Mincy averaged 14.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists in his lone season for George Mason. He was a second team Atlantic 10 selection this year but was bothered by a thumb injury late in the season.
Prior to George Mason, he played two seasons at Presbyterian College and averaged 15 points and 4.4 assists as a sophomore. At PC, Mincy scored 27 points in a 69-59 loss against the Gamecocks on Dec. 30, 2024.
Mincy is a career 37.7 shooter from three-point range.
Mincy has one season of eligibility left.
The Gamecocks lost seven players to the transfer portal and five players to graduation so coach Lamont Paris and his staff will be busy to add guys to the roster. South Carolina has only one high school signee in Marcus Johnson.
The Gamecocks went 13-19 this season and lost in the first round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament.
