South Carolina MBB adding highly-touted guard prospect from SEC school

South Carolina men’s basketball added a second transfer portal commitment from a Southeastern Conference school.

Alabama’s Davion Hannah committed to Lamont Paris and the Gamecocks on Thursday, The State confirmed. The Field of 68’s Jeff Goodman and others were the first to report the news. Hannah will have at least three years of eligibility left and possibly four if he gets a medical redshirt after missing most of this year’s season.

Hannah picked the Gamecocks over Georgetown. Other schools that were in the mix included Ohio State, North Carolina State, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin.

Hannah played in 10 games this season for the Crimson Tide and averaged 3.3 points and 1.9 rebounds. He had a season-high 12 against Maryland on Nov. 26.

On3 Industry Rankings lists Hannah as the No. 5 combo guard and No. 48 player to hit this year’s transfer cycle. The Wisconsin native was a former four-star prospect coming out of Link Academy in Missouri.

Hannah is the sixth player the Gamecocks are adding from the transfer portal, joining Jakub Necas (Duquesne), Shane Blakeney (Drexel), forward Aleksas Bieliauskas (Wisconsin), Camden Heide (Texas) and Kory Mincy (George Mason).

The Gamecocks lost seven players to the transfer portal and five players to graduation, so Paris and his staff will be busy adding new players to the roster. South Carolina has only one high school signee in four-star Marcus Johnson.

The Gamecocks return Grant Polk, Hayden Assemian and Eli Sparkman. USC went 13-19 this season and lost in the first round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament.
