Gamecocks MBB team adds commitment from another international prospect
Lamont Paris and South Carolina men's basketball have added what should be the final piece to their 2026-27 roster.
Spain's Hugo Lopez has committed to play to the Gamecocks, according to John Kepevich of Draft Express. Garcia is 22 years old (will turn 23 on July 5) and is the second international commitment for the Gamecocks, joining Juan Fernandez.
The 6-foot-9 Garcia should have two years of eligibility based on NCAA rules. Garcia most recently played for Movistar Estudiantes Madrid in Spain and has played professionally since 2021.
This season, Garcia averaged 2.7 points, 3.5 rebounds and shot 56.1 % in 22 games.
The Gamecocks are coming off a 13-19 season, and their roster is going through a massive overhaul. Twelve players departed because of graduation or transfers.
South Carolina has added six others from the transfer portal: Davion Hannah (Alabama)l, Jakub Necas (Duquesne), Shane Blakeney (Drexel), forward Aleksas Bieliauskas (Wisconsin), Camden Heide (Texas) and Kory Mincy (George Mason).
