Michael Carrera gets opportunity with NBA’s Miami Heat
Former South Carolina forward Michael Carrera will get his chance in the NBA.
Carrera will be part of the Miami Heat’s summer league team. The NBA operates summer leagues in Las Vegas and Orlando, Fla.
“I am very happy with this new opportunity that God has given me and grateful to the organization of the Heat for the invitation,” he told the publication Noticia al Dia.
Carrera led the Gamecocks in 2015-16 in scoring (14.5 avg.), rebounding (7.7 avg.) and blocks (33).
There was talked Carrera had worked his way into draft consideration of Thursday’s NBA Draft.
“To know that one of our guys is in that conversation is exciting for our program,” USC coach Frank Martin said Thursday. “He’s in great spirits, as he always is. Truth be told, you don’t need 32 teams or whatever to like you, you need one general manager to believe in you.”
