Dakereon Joyner sets sights on flipping Xavier Thomas
After a top recruit commits to a school, it’s almost standard for him to be asked about helping recruit more players to the class.
Four-star Fort Dorcherster quarterback Dakereon Joyner committed to South Carolina on Sunday, and he set his sights high.
“One, I’m going to get Xavier Thomas to flip,” Joyner said. “I’m going to try to get him, Stephon Wynn, just everybody on board.
“To win a national championship, I need guys around me.”
That’s Xavier Thomas, the five-star defensive end ranked No. 2 nationally by 247Sports who is currently committed to Clemson. Wynn is a top uncommitted player who is originally from South Carolina, a 6-foot-4, 260-pound end.
Thomas and Wynn left schools in Florence and Anderson, respectively, to play for Florida super team IMG Academy. Thomas was considered a top USC target before pledging to the Tigers, and Wynn represents one of the Gamecocks’ best chances to get a part of the state’s rich 2018 class.
So what’s going to be the pitch from Joyner, who projects to work behind Jake Bentley early in his career?
“Everybody wants to play with a good quarterback,” Joyner said. “Hopefully they jump on board.”
