Local pitcher commits to South Carolina baseball
South Carolina picked up a commitment from Chapin pitcher Cade Austin on Sunday.
Austin participated this weekend in the Diamond Prospects’ Palmetto Games at Founders Park, home of the Gamecocks.
“Blessed to say I’ve committed to the University of South Carolina. Thank you to my friends and family that have helped me on the way,” Austin posted on Twitter.
Austin was 5-3 with a 2.75 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 56 innings last season for the Eagles.
The sophomore is the first recruit for new USC coach Mark Kingston for the Class of 2020. Austin joins Blythewood sophomore Landon Lucas, who committed to USC before the coaching change.
