Gamecocks reach out to one of SC’s top tailbacks

South Carolina offered Chapman running back DJ Twitty a preferred walk-on spot Thursday.

The Chapman senior has been one of the top running backs in the state the past two seasons.

“It is a blessing to receive a preferred walk-on offer from South Carolina,” Twitty said.

Twitty, 6-foot, 215 pounds rushed for 2,072 yards and 32 touchdowns this season in helping Chapman to its second straight state title appearance. He has rushed for more than 6,000 yards in his career.

Twitty has offers from Campbell, Limestone and Pikeville and also has gotten interest from Duke, Georgia State, North Carolina and Coastal Carolina. He will play in Saturday’s Touchstone Energy North-South game at Myrtle Beach High School.
