Miami lineman commits to Gamecocks

Class of 2019 offensive lineman Mark Fox of Miami (Northwestern) has committed to the South Carolina football team.

Fox announced his commitment via Twitter on Wednesday morning.

He is the Gamecocks’ fourth pledge for the class and second for the offensive line.

Fox also has offers from Florida, Auburn, Ole Miss, Louisville, Georgia, Illinois, Purdue, Central Florida and others.

He is a three-star tackle prospect, according to the 247Sports Composite ranking that factors in all network ratings.

Fox was offered by the Gamecocks on Monday. He said he actually committed to USC head coach Will Muschamp on Tuesday night.

Fox was heavily recruited by offensive line coach Eric Wolford and was impressed with what he’s seen and heard from him and Muschamp.

“They coaches are real, real good and they make sure their players are all right and stay straight,” he said. “The program is definitely getting better and better. The coaches are always honest and will always make sure you are straight as a student-athlete.”

Fox has never visited USC but said he may join a couple of teammates on a visit March 31, and if he can’t make it then he’ll definitely be in for a camp in June.

Fox said his size and agility are two things coaches like about him.

“My strength and speed,” he said are two things that stand out.

Fox said he is not ready to shut down his recruiting and will continuing talking with other schools.

Fox said he visited Georgia, Auburn, Florida and Alabama last summer and has not yet taken any visits this year.

“I’m going to continue to keep it open, I’m not going to close it,” he said.

Fox said he’s not sure yet if he’ll sign in December or if he will graduate early.
