He’s got an ACC offer, but talented in-state linebacker will walk on with Gamecocks
Darryle Ware had plenty of college offers but is deciding to walk-on at South Carolina.
The Fort Dorchester linebacker announced Saturday he would enroll in January and walk on with the Gamecocks. Fort Dorchester is the same high school as USC quarterback Dakereon Joyner.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pound defender had offers from Georgia Tech, Colorado State and Coastal Carolina. He camped multiple times at USC and is ranked as a three-star prospect by 247 Sports.
“I considered Colorado State and Georgia Tech but things didn’t work the way I expected,” Ware said. “USC is home and I couldn’t let the opportunity go.”
He’s the No. 77 inside linebacker in the country.
This year, Ware was all-state selection by SC Football Coaches Association and will play in the Shrine Bowl next week. As a senior, the three-year starter posted 85 tackles, eight sacks and 21 tackles for loss.
As a junior, Ware had 65 tackles, sick sacks and 19 tackles for loss.
