USC Recruiting

He caught 22 TDs and got 32 yards per catch in 2019. South Carolina made his top six

It’s hard to know where the absurdity should start with Louisiana wide receiver recruit Keon Coleman.

He caught 35 balls last season. Of those, 22 were touchdowns. Each of those catches averaged more than 32 yards.

And the South Carolina Gamecocks football program made his final six.

The 6-foot-4, 185 pounder announced his final six of USC, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Kansas, Mississippi State and Florida State. It was notable enough that Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp gave it a retweet.

South Carolina’s offer came in early April. Some of the teams that didn’t make his cut were Penn State, Ole Miss, Georgia, Auburn, Baylor and Oklahoma State.

He’s the No. 261 player in the 247 Sports composite rankings and the No. 48 wide receiver in the country.

Overall, he posted 1,143 receiving yards for Opelousas Catholic. He did that damage on 42 targets, ran for two more touchdowns, returned at least one kickoff for a score and picked off seven passes playing corner on defense. He was part of a 10-2 team that averaged 38.8 points per game (and allowed 10.8).

The Gamecocks are set to lose their only proven receiver, Shi Smith, at the end of the 2020 season. The already have smaller speed receiver Sam Reynolds in the 2021 class.
