Georgia QB hasn’t yet been full-time high school starter. He just got a Gamecock offer
The 2023 recruiting class is a long way off for South Carolina football.
But the Gamecocks have extended their second publicly known quarterback offer for the class to Dylan Lonergan out of Brookwood High School in Georgia. He’s coming off splitting the starting job in his freshman season.
The 6-foot-1, 195-pound rising sophomore reportedly has offers from LSU, Penn State, Auburn, Tennessee, West Virginia, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech. He is also considered a high-end baseball prospect.
He threw for around 800 yards, according to 247Sports, with eight passing touchdowns and eight more on the ground. On film he didn’t look like a pure dual-threat passer, but he showed plenty of mobility and chops as a runner.
He is the son of former Penn State quarterback Dan Lonergan, a member of the 1982 national title team.
South Carolina’s only other offer to a 2023 passer is in-state QB Raheim Jeter. Playing for Greer High last season, he had some freshman struggles, throwing only five touchdowns to 13 interceptions.
The Gamecocks already have their 2021 passer committed in Colten Gauthier. They have a smaller number of offers out to 2022 QBs, with a lot of ties to prolific Georgia passer Gunner Stockton, who plays for Connor Shaw’s brother.
