Gamecock commits Colten Gauthier, Sam Reynolds help teams to Friday night wins

For the second straight week, a South Carolina football commit had a strong showing in a nationally-televised broadcast.

Class of 2021 ATH Sam Reynolds caught a 36-yard TD pass in helping top-ranked Thompson (Ala.) to a 35-21 win over No. 2 Hewitt-Trussville on Friday. The game was shown on ESPNU.

Reynolds’ TD catch was his fifth of the season. He entered the game with 311 all-purpose yards. He has played both running back and receiver so far this season.

Gamecock Class of 2021 quarterback commit Colten Gauthier helped Hebron Christian (Ga.) to its first win of the year with a 23-7 victory over Elbert. Gauthier threw two touchdowns of 42 and 44 yards in the win.

“A win is a win, so right now we’re going to celebrate the win,” Gauthier said after the game. “The things that we missed are the things that we’re gonna go in the film room Saturday and Sunday before we go into next week. Not the best, but a win is a win, so we’re good.”

Class of 2021 running back Caleb McDowell had a 56-yard TD run on the first play of the game in Lee County (Ga.) 66-0 win over Crawford County. He had just one more carry after that, according to coach Dean Fabrizio, with Lee County up by a big margin. Lee County is 2-0 on the season and plays Lowndes in a key matchup next week.

After shining in a nationally-televised broadcast a week ago, Raburn (Ga,) quarterback and USC Class of 2022 Gunner Stockton was held in check Friday night. Stockton threw for 127 yards on 8-of-20 passing with a touchdown in the 28-14 loss to Jefferson.

Class of 2021 ATH/DB Jayden Johnson had a 6-yard touchdown run in Cedartown (Ga.) 14-7 loss to Calhoun. Johnson had three catches for 47 yards and two tackles. the week before in his team’s opener
