Braden Davis and Keenan Nelson will be teammates on the South Carolina football team in a few months. But on Friday night, they will be on opposing sides in a nationally televised game.

Davis and his Middletown (Del.) squad will host Nelson and St. Joseph’s Prep (Pa.) at 5 p.m. on ESPNU. The matchup is one of MaxPreps’ 10 high school football games to watch this week.

“GAMECOCK NATION!!!! Watch me and @BradenDavis_5 compete against each other this Friday @5pm on ESPNU. #spursup,” Nelson posted Thursday on Twitter.

The four-star prospects are the two highest-ranked recruits for coach Shane Beamer so far in the Gamecocks’ Class of 2022 by 247Sports Composite rankings. Davis, a quarterback, is the 18th-ranked QB prospect in the country and top prospect from the state of Delaware.

Nelson is the 16th-best safety in the country and seventh-ranked prospect coming out of Pennsylvania.

Both Davis and Nelson’s teams are off to good starts this year. Middletown is 4-0, and Davis is coming off a career-best six-touchdown performance on Saturday. For the season, he is 45-of-84 passing for 762 yards and 13 touchdowns.

St. Joseph’s is 2-2 with one of the losses against Georgia powerhouse Milton High School. Nelson had a blocked punt in last weeks’ game.

This isn’t the first time two USC commits have faced each other in a game this season.

Southlake Carroll defeated Rockwall-Heath in a matchup of Texas schools on Sept. 12. Southlake Carroll featured WR commit Landon Samson while Rockwall had safety Payton Williams.
