Oscar Delp decision day arrives with Gamecocks holding out hope

Oscar Delp’s college decision is coming late Wednesday afternoon, and South Carolina tight end Nick Muse is fully aware.

As Muse wrapped up an interview with reporters Tuesday, the fifth-year senior made a final call-out to the four-star prospect out of West Forsyth High School (Georgia).

“Oscar Delp, please join us,” Muse said as he stepped away from the lectern.

Delp announced his final four schools — South Carolina, Georgia, Clemson and Michigan — via Twitter on Aug. 12.

The No. 3 tight end in the 247Sports Composite and No. 9 player out of the state of Georgia, Delp will be making his decision in his high school cafeteria at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday. Delp’s decision will be televised live by FOX 5 Atlanta, but it will also be available for online streaming outside of the Atlanta broadcast market.

Delp told On3’s Chad Simmons that he felt comfortable with all four of the schools on his final list and that his decision would come down to relationships.

“The most important thing for me overall is feeling comfortable and at home,” Delp told On3. “I know I have to go to school there and live there for four years, so that home feeling is No. 1 for me.

“After that, it comes down to my relationships with the coaches, the fan base, and how the schools use the tight ends in their offense. All those things are important to me, too.”

What about South Carolina?

A 6-foot-5, 220-pound tight end, Delp took a final unofficial visit to South Carolina for the Gamecocks’ matchup with Troy on Oct. 2. He had glowing remarks for his most recent experience at Williams-Brice Stadium.

“It was awesome,” Delp said. “The fans were insane. People stopped me left and right. They had my name painted on some kids in the student section, so it was crazy. I definitely felt the love. I had a good time, it was a lot of fun.”

He said he “loved” what head coach Shane Beamer did with the tight ends in USC’s 23-14 win, as four tight ends (Muse, E.J. Jenkins, Jaheim Bell and Traevon Kenion) all received playing time. Quarterback Luke Doty targeted tight ends 11 times against Troy, and Jenkins scored the Gamecocks’ lone offensive touchdown.

“(Coaches) were telling me the same thing they’ve been telling me from the beginning,” Delp said. “I can help them change that program and be that guy known for that team, make a name for myself. Everybody wants to be that guy on the team. I think it’s a good opportunity to have that chance.”

Oscar Delp 247Sports Crystal Ball

The 247Sports Crystal Ball has given Delp a 91.7% chance of picking Georgia — though no predictions have been entered since February — with the other 8.3% going to Michigan. Rivals FutureCast’s prediction is a unanimous 100% in Georgia’s favor.

Delp visited Athens for the Bulldogs’ 40-13 win over the Gamecocks on Sept. 18 and had positive words to say about his trip to UGA as well.

“It was awesome,” Delp told 247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong. “The fans were great, the atmosphere was great, I had a good time being able to hang out with the coaches and players and experience Athens in full capacity.”

Delp said he would let schools know where he will commit the day before he announces his decision.
