South Carolina landed another four-star quarterback for the 2022 class Saturday when Tanner Bailey of Gordo, Alabama announced his commitment.

South Carolina quickly announced that Bailey had already signed with the Gamecocks.

Bailey’s decision gives the Gamecocks three QBs in head coach Shane Beamer’s second recruiting class, including four-star high school signee Braden Davis and Oklahoma transfer Spencer Rattler.

This is South Carolina’s first time signing two quarterbacks since Will Muschamp added Jake Bentley and Brandon McIlwain in his inaugural 2016 class. Both were four-stars.

A few minutes after his announcement, Bailey said Beamer and offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield made all the difference in his decision. which came a few days after he decommitted from Oregon.

“For sure the staff,” Bailey said. “Coach Beamer and Coach Satt have been really good to me. They’ve been recruiting me since early this year. After I decommitted from Oregon the other day, they got in touch with me really quick. They do some great things on offense over there. I know they are building something special.”

Bailey is the highest-rated signee in Shane Beamer’s class as the 218th-best prospect in the class, according to the 247Sports Composite. He’s the No. 14 quarterback in the class of 2022 and the No. 11 player out of the state of Alabama.

Bailey, a 6-foot-1, 195-pound QB, was committed to Oregon before backing off his pledge with the coaching change there.

Bailey was offered by 21 other programs, with a percentage of the 247Sports Crystal Ball projections predicting he’d go to Indiana. He visited the Hoosiers on Dec. 10, days after decommitting from Oregon on Dec. 6.

Going into his senior season, Bailey had thrown for 6,200 yards and 71 touchdowns. Throwing the ball is what he does best, and he feels that will play out well in Satterfield’s offense.

“I think there are a lot of things,” Bailey said. “I think Coach Satterfield is a great play caller, great developer. He’s got some good guys coming in, so we’ll have a good QB room. It will be decent competition. I think with me being a natural passer, I think I will fit well in the system.”

Bailey will not enroll until the summer because he will play baseball this spring.

South Carolina lost two quarterbacks last week, with walk-on Connor Jordan announcing his entry into the transfer portal before the Rattler news Monday, and former starter Jason Brown opting for the portal Wednesday.

According to the 247Sports Composite, the Gamecocks now have three four-star quarterbacks out of high school as well as high school five-star Rattler, who was the No. 1 pro style quarterback in the class of 2019.
