NC State transfer D-lineman commits to Beamer, Gamecocks
South Carolina football secured a commitment from the transfer portal Saturday.
N.C. State defensive lineman Terrell Dawkins announced he would be joining the Gamecocks in social media posts.
The 6-foot-4, 245-pound lineman finished with six tackles in 2021 after coming off preseason surgery. He redshirted in 2019. In 2020, Dawkins led ACC freshmen in sacks with 4.5, which ranked him second on the Wolfpack. He started in six games at defensive end in 2020 and finished that year with 36 total tackles, including 9.0 for loss.
“I trust God more than man, thankful for this opportunity #Spursup,” Dawkins tweeted along with a graphic.
Dawkins was a three-star prospect out of Cox Mill High School in North Carolina, according to the 247Sports Composite. He entered the transfer portal on Dec. 30 and will have three seasons of eligibility remaining thanks to relief granted from the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer tipped off two commitments with “#WelcomeHome” tweets Saturday afternoon.
“That’s 2 Today,” Beamer tweeted Saturday with a video of a beach. “I may have been at the beach earlier this week but we were still working the phones hard trying to make @GamecockFB better.”
Dawkins is the third transfer portal addition for 2022, joining former Oklahoma players Spencer Rattler and Austin Stogner in choosing the Gamecocks.
