Gamecocks reel in two commitments on busy recruiting weekend
South Carolina football had a big recruiting weekend and it has landed the Gamecocks two commitments.
Class of 2023 receiver Kelton Henderson of Island Coast High in Florida committed to Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks. Henderson took an official visit to USC over the weekend. Shortly after Henderson’s commitment, tight end Connor Cox committed to the Gamecocks.
They are the third and fourth commits for Gamecocks in 2023, but Beamer hinted more could be on the way Sunday.
“Buckle up,” the USC second-year coach posted on Twitter, tweeting later: “What a phone call I just got .....Who’s ready for #3 of the day ?????”
247Sports ranks Henderson as a four-star prospect and in the top 300 natonally. ESPN has him as the 144th-best player in Class of 2023.
Henderson had offers from Auburn, Michigan, LSU, Georgia and Miami among others. He is scheduled to take an official visit to Michigan later this month.
Henderson had 10 catches 222 yards and four touchdowns last season. He also had two TDs rushing. On defense, he had 20 tackles, a sack and an interception.
247Sports Composite ranks Cox as a three-star prospect. He had almost 20 offers including Texas, Boston College and Louisville.
The 6-foot-5, 220-pound Cox played in five games last season and caught seven passes for 148 yards.
“The biggest factor to me was the people on the staff at USC and the direction that the culture was moving in,” Cox told The State. “That goes for what I like the most about the program as well.”
USC hosted 13 players on official visits this weekend. Two of them, Jalen Kilgore and QB Dylan Lonegran announced their commitment dates.
Kilgore will announce on Wednesday and Lonegran on July 5. 247Sports crystal ball predictions have both of them picking the Gamecocks.
