Touted 4-star, in-state OT visits Gamecocks camp. Clemson WR with local ties on hand
South Carolina is nearing the end of its summer recruiting season.
The Gamecocks held their second-to-last day of camps on Thursday, including an offensive and defensive line camp and a 7-on-7 tournament.
Here are a handful of news and notes from the day:
- Four-star offensive tackle Josiah Thompson (Dillon) was in to check out the Gamecocks on Thursday during the OL-DL camp. Thompson looks the part at 6-foot-6 and 280 pounds and moves as fluidly as anyone can at that size. He received plenty of attention from South Carolina offensive line coach Greg Adkins, defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey and recruiting assistant Sam Serbay. Thompson is rated the No. 87 player nationally and No. 5 OT in the 2024 class, per 247Sports Composite.
- Clemson wide receiver and former Dutch Fork standout Antonio Williams was on hand for the 7-on-7 portion of the camp to watch his former teammates play. Williams was a major South Carolina target before he spurned the Gamecocks for the Tigers during the 2022 recruiting cycle. He’s entering his first season at Clemson.
- Speaking of Dutch Fork, Silver Foxes 2023 running back Jarvis Green was part of the 7-on-7 tournament. Green has quickly earned colleges’ attention, earning offers from Memphis, Appalachian State, Charlotte, Georgia Southern, Georgia State and Miami (Ohio), among others. He finished the 2021 season with over 1,700 yards rushing and 35 touchdowns.
- Class of 2023 defensive end Nathan Johnson (Gaffney) received some attention from the South Carolina staff on Thursday. Johnson had a handful of conversations with Gamecocks defensive ends/outside linebackers coach Sterling Lucas and won a few one-on-ones during the latter portions of the OL-DL camp. The 6-foot-6, 225-pounder has reported FBS offers from Air Force, Army, Miami (Ohio) and Georgia Southern.
- Former South Carolina receiver Troy Williamson was in Columbia on Thursday. He posed for a picture with receivers coach Justin Stepp earlier in the day. Williamson was picked No. 7 overall in the 2005 NFL Draft following a standout career for the Gamecocks in which he notched 1,754 yards on 91 receptions.
- Gaffney three-star quarterback Grayson Loftis helped his squad to the 7-on-7 tournament title. Loftis is rated the No. 609 player and No. 32 quarterback in the 2023 class, per the 247Sports Composite. He committed to Duke in January.
- Three-star 2024 safety Kelvin Hunter appeared in the 7-on-7 tournament with West Florence. Hunter is a recent riser in the class, having notched offers from Virginia Tech, Kentucky and Appalachian State since May. He earned a South Carolina offer in June 2021 and is rated the No. 49 safety in the class and No. 6 player in the state, per 247Sports’ in-house rankings.
