Top in-state receiving prospect announces commitment date, final schools
South Carolina is one of the final schools for Greenville junior wide receiver Mazeo Bennett.
The Class of 2024 prospect announced his final eight schools on Saturday with South Carolina one of the finalists. The other schools are Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, North Carolina, Oregon and Tennessee.
Bennett will announce his decision on Oct. 16, his birthday.
The Gamecocks offered Bennett a year ago and have been in strong pursuit of him since then. He attended individual and team camp at USC this summer and was at the Gamecocks’ game against Georgia on Sept. 17.
South Carolina has two commitments for the Class of 2024 already in quarterback Dante Reno and defensive back Karson Hobbs.
Bennett attended Tennessee’s game against Florida last weekend. He’s also taken unofficial visits to Alabama, Georgia, Virginia Tech, Florida, Miami and Florida State this summer.
“Been a great experience,” Bennett said of his recruitment in August. “Last year, I was under the radar and now I am starting to get a lot of recognition. I am just trying to be humble with it every day.
“Coaches like how I am versatile, can play inside and outside, and block for teammates — and I am just a dog on the field.”
247Sports Composite ranks Bennett as a four-star prospect and the third-overall prospect in South Carolina for the Class of 2024. He is the 30th-ranked receiver nationally for his class.
Bennett is coming off a big junior season in which he caught 25 passes for 661 yards and five touchdowns in helping the Red Raiders to the Class 4A Upper State championship.
Through five games this season, he has 17 catches for 271 yards and five touchdowns.
