South Carolina football is making a late run at one of the state’s top quarterback prospects, offering South Florence High School senior quarterback LaNorris Sellers.

“It feels good to have a in-state offer,” Sellers told The State on Saturday. “It’s been talked about for a while now and it finally happened. They just said they like what I’m about and everything I do on the field and the person I am off the field.”

South Carolina coaches have had their eyes on the Class of 2023 recruit and had him on campus for camps during the summer. The senior is a three-star prospect by 247Sports Composite rankings, and he is the 19th-ranked prospect in the state.

USC doesn’t have a QB committed for the 2023 class, though it’s been discussed that Class of 2024 commit Dante Reno could reclassify to this year’s group.

Sellers committed to Virginia in July 2021 but decommitted in January after the Cavaliers made a coaching change. He then chose Syracuse in March.

Other schools also still have shown interest with Sellers picking up offers from Memphis and Coastal Carolina. Georgia coaches also stopped by South Florence this week.

Sellers said at the moment he isn’t sure how the USC offer would affect things going forward.

This year’s December signing period begins Dec. 21.

Gamecocks offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield attended South Florence’s game against Myrtle Beach on Oct. 14. Sellers threw for 278 yards and ran for 137 yards with five total touchdowns in the 56-21 win.

Sellers’ performance came a week after he threw for 426 yards and eight touchdowns and rushed for another in a 63-0 win over Wilson on Oct. 7. The game was called in the third quarter after a fight in the stands.

Syracuse coach Dino Babers was in attendance for that game.

Sellers entered Friday’s game against North Myrtle Beach game with 84-of-147 passing for 1,547 yards and 23 touchdowns for the Bruins, ranked No. 1 in Class 4A. He added three more TD passes in the 46-0 win over NMB,

Earlier this month, Sellers was picked to play in the Shrine Bowl all-star game.
