Brandon McIlwain locks in Elite 11 honor
Brandon McIlwain is elite.
The South Carolina quarterback commitment was named to the Elite 11 on Friday after his performance this week in the competition’s finals.
The Elite 11 Finals featured 18 participants and were held alongside The Opening at Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Ore.
McIlwain was part of the same 7-on-7 team at The Opening with fellow USC commitment Bryan Edwards, a wide receiver from Conway. A total of 166 of the nation’s top prospects competed in the week-long event.
McIlwain, from Newtown, Pa., joined Stephen Garcia (2006) and Blake Mitchell (2002) as USC commitments to be part of the Elite 11 finals.
The Elite 11 event was founded in 1999. The finals included 18 quarterbacks taking part in five days of advanced instruction and competition.
McIlwain is considered a four-star prospect and the nation’s No. 8 dual-threat quarterback in the 2016 class, according to 247Sports’ Composite rankings. Last season he passed for 2,100 yards and 18 touchdowns and rushed for 1,100 yards and 20 touchdowns.
