‘Even hotter now’: Shane Beamer weighs in on LaNorris Sellers, USC’s recruiting run
South Carolina’s week of recruiting celebrations rolled on into Friday.
South Florence High School quarterback LaNorris Sellers, on the final day of the December early signing period, announced a decision for the USC Gamecocks.
That news brought plenty of reaction on social media, including head coach Shane Beamer.
Beamer chimed in via Twitter on the Sellers addition to the 2023 recruiting class shortly after QB made his announcement, saying: “Let’s Go!!!!! It’s (cold emojis) outside but it just got really (hot emojis) with @GamecockFB !! Actually we were already hot …Even hotter now Congrats @LanorriSellers.”
It was a strong week and an emphatic close to the week for Beamer’s program. USC added five to its 2023 recruiting class since Sunday, with additional transfer prospects also announcing decisions for the Gamecocks.
The Gamecocks’ signing class ranked No. 16 nationally according to 247Sports Composite, which factors in all networks.
The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Sellers is rated a four-star prospect by 247Sports Composite and the No. 5 prospect in South Carolina. Four of the top five players in the 247Sports Composite from withing the state are committed to play for the Gamecocks.
Sellers threw for 2,928 yards and 45 touchdowns, and rushed for 1,338 yards and 22 touchdowns as a senior. He was a finalist for the state’s Mr. Football award and was named Class 4A Lower State Back of the Year.
“Remember this kid!” former USC quarterback Perry Orth said via Twitter. “One of the best players I’ve ever watched in person! This is an enormous get by the Gamecocks! Hats off to the coaching staff. They are doing an amazing job.”
Sellers is USC’s fifth in-state signee for the Class of 2023 and is expected to enroll early in January. He is the lone quarterback in this year’s Gamecocks class, and his decision gives the program 22 total signees.
