USC, Clemson coaches come out in force looking to land in-state prospect Amare Adams

South Carolina and Clemson football coaches turned out to get a final look at Amare Adams on Saturday, a day before his commitment announcement.

Adams, the South Florence High junior defensive end, is the top-ranked prospect in the state for the Class of 2025. He will be making his college choice on Sunday afternoon with a social media announcement.

In addition to USC and Clemson, he’s also considering Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Florida State and Tennessee.

Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer was among the USC coaches who attended Adams’ state championship game against Westside held at S.C. State’s football stadium. Westside defeated South Florence 34-32 on a touchdown pass with 15 seconds left. The Bruins were going for their second straight championship.

USC assistants Travian Robertson, Justin Stepp, Montario Hardesty, Lonnie Teasley, Dowell Loggains, Clayton White, Jody Wright, Pete Lembo and Torrian Gray also were in attendance for the game.

Clemson defensive coordinator Wes Goodwin and defensive tackle coach Nick Eason also were at the game.

The Tigers are trending as the pick to land Adams. Four crystal ball predictions were placed Saturday on 247Sports for Adams to pick Clemson. The Tigers have four commitments so far for the Class of 2025.

Adams wore gloves with an orange Nike swoosh for Saturday’s game. He visited both Clemson and South Carolina this fall.

Adams was at Clemson for the Florida State game on Sept 23 and then at Williams-Brice Stadium for the Gamecocks and Tigers game last week.

“Adams is a big-bodied, nimble football, powerful player at the point of attack,” 247Sports Steve Wiltfong wrote on Saturday. “Clemson has a standard at the position in the Swinney era and Adams would fit the mold as a versatile disruptor, a high-motored player in the trenches.

247Sports Composite ranks Adams as a four-star prospect and 12th-best defensive line prospect in the Class of 2025. The 6-foot-3, 290-pounder is in his first year at South Florence after playing last season at Lake City. Adams’ father is an assistant coach for the Bruins.

While facing a lot of double teams on Saturday, Adams had four tackles, one for loss, in the game. He came into the game with 57 tackles, nine for loss, three sacks and three forced fumbles.

“He comes to work every day and has a humble work ethic,” South Florence defensive line coach Troy Biddy said after the game. “He is what you want as a defensive lineman and what you want on your team.”
