South Carolina beats out Clemson, others for four-star safety recruit
Despite a late push from Clemson, South Carolina got over the finish line and earned a commitment from four-star safety Kendall Daniels Jr. on Friday.
The four-star safety took an official visit to South Carolina in late June, just a few weeks after Clemson entered the picture and formally offered the recruit from Norfolk, Virginia.
The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Daniels is ranked as a Top-35 safety in America and a Top-10 player from the state of Virginia. He also has a bit of familiarity with South Carolina as a former teammate at Maury High, Fred “JayR” Johnson, is a freshman linebacker for the Gamecocks.
Daniels is just the second safety the Gamecocks have picked up in the Class of 2025, joining three-star Damarcus Leach from Alabama.
His pledge is another win for Shane Beamer’s efforts to recruit states that are north of South Carolina. The Gamecocks signed three players from the northern states last cycle, including five-star edge Dylan Stewart, and already have six committed in the 2025 class — headlined by Daniels and four-star wide receiver Lex Cyrus from Pennsylvania.
