Dawn Staley, South Carolina offer high-scoring hometown girls basketball standout
Lauren Jacobs has picked up her share of college offers over the last few months. On Tuesday, the Heathwood Hall standout got one from national champion South Carolina.
Jacobs is the first in-state player from the Class of 2025 to receive an offer from coach Dawn Staley and the Gamecocks.
Some of Jacobs’ other offers include Virginia Tech, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi State, Clemson, Ole Miss, Penn State, Wake Forest, Marshall Davidson, George Washington, Marquette and Florida Atlantic.
ESPN HoopGurlz ranks Jacobs as No. 89 on its top 100 players for the Class of 2025. USC doesn’t have a commitment yet for 2025 but is in the mix with several high-ranking prospects.
South Carolina has done a great job keeping area and in-state talent home. The Gamecocks’ roster includes Cardinal Newman’s Ashlyn Watkins, Keenan’s MiLaysia Fulwiley and Camden’s Joyce Edwards.
Jacobs goes to the same high school that Gamecock great and WNBA All-Star A’ja Wilson. She also plays on Wilson’s sponsored AAU team. Her head coach, Brionna Dickerson Zimmerman, also played in college for the Gamecocks.
As a junior, Jacobs was one of the top scoring players in the state. She averaged 31.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.2 steals and 2.1 assists in helping the Highlanders to second-straight SCISA Class 4A championship.
Jacobs has been on varsity since the eighth grade and is closing in on 2,000 points in her career (1,676).
