Alabama DB commits to South Carolina football for 2026 recruiting class
South Carolina football picked up a defensive commitment for the Class of 2026.
Woodlawn (Alabama) defensive back KJ Johnson committed to Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks on Monday. Johnson’s commitment comes after his official visit to South Carolina on May 30. He took two unofficial visits to USC in March and April.
USC coaches also visited Johnson at his school in the spring.
“South Carolina went above and beyond with the official visit,” Johnson told SportsTalk’s Phil Kornblut. “Before going there, it was already high, but with a great official visit like this, it just nailed it. It just nailed it.”
Johnson picked the Gamecocks over Ole Miss, West Virginia and Mississippi State. His commitment could signal a busy summer for Gamecocks as they look to land more pieces for this year’s recruiting class.
The Gamecocks over the weekend landed a pair of commitments from Weddington High (NC) twins Andrew and Aiden Harris, who play on the defensive line.
247Sports Composite has Johnson as a three-star prospect and the 44th-best defensive cornerback in the country for his class. Last season, Johnson had 76 tackles, nine tackle for loss and two interceptions.
He’s the eighth commitment for South Carolina’s 2026 recruiting class.
