Stone Furrey always wanted to play for his father. Now, he’ll have the opportunity to do so in college.

The Dutch Fork High receiver committed to South Carolina on Wednesday, according to a post on his Instagram page. Stone is the son of South Carolina receivers coach Mike Furrey.

Stone will begin classes next week and moved on campus on Wednesday.

“Being around football I’ve seen many coaches many people and many players, days and nights and I don’t think there’s one coach better than my dad,” Stone told The State. “And especially not a better coach than coach Beamer. I’m truly blessed to be able to continue my football career and play here. USC was the first college camp I went to before my dad was even working here. It’s always had a special place in my heart.”

Stone wanted to play football, though his family didn’t allow him to start until he was in the eighth grade. The father and son have forged a bond together over the sport, especially their offseason workouts.

Furrey had college interest, including offers this spring from Gardner-Webb, Murray State and East Tennessee State, and other interest from Marshall and Liberty.

The Gamecocks have two other receivers in this year’s recruiting class in Indian Land’s Sequel Patterson and Oklahoma transfer Jayden Gibson. Patterson, who reclassified to Class of 2026, is playing in the Navy All-American game this week and won’t enroll to the summer.

Furrey, who ran a 4.46 40-yard dash at USC camp this summer, moved to Midlands when his father took the job with Gamecocks in 2024. He played at Chapin his junior year and won a state title in 2025 with Dutch Fork. At Chapin, he caught 55 passes for 673 yards and six touchdowns.

This year, Furrey was second on the Silver Foxes with 38 catches and led the team with 688 yards and five touchdowns. He was selected to the Touchstone Energy Bowl all-star game.
