Gamecocks offer running back from North Carolina
The South Carolina football staff has sights set on an under-the-radar running back.
Rico Dowdle, out of Reynolds High School in Asheville, N.C., tweeted Wednesday that he received an offer from the Gamecock and confirmed it to several media outlets. The late addition to North Carolina’s Shrine Bowl team played quarterback for his high school team, but he’ll return to his natural spot at the next level.
Offer from South Carolina today! #Blessed
— Rico Dowdle (@bdowdle10) December 16, 2015As a senior, he passed for 1,434 yards and 11 scores and ran for 2,545 with 51 touchdowns. He’s 5-foot-11, 207 pounds.
He also has offers from N.C. State, Boston College, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest.
South Carolina already had C.J. Freeman in the fold for 2016 at running back, but the team is losing two rotation tailbacks off last year’s team and signing multiple backs in a class is normal.
